Abstract

In a qualitative survey study on characteristic qualities in Waldorf daycare centers, in addition to conceptual peculiarities in the guiding principles and educational goals (orientation quality) as well as clear Waldorf specifics with regard to the focal points expressed by the respondents in everyday pedagogical life (surveyed process quality), a Waldorf-specific use of term was also reconstructed, which differs greatly from the usual childhood pedagogical or educational vocabulary. In the interviews conducted, individual interviewees addressed, among other things, the “homing” („Beheimaten“) of the child as well as “giving a shell” („Hülle-Geben“). These uses of terms show both possible and meaningful connections to educational science discourse as well as clear differences. This article explores these (in)possibilities of connection by attempting to explicate the underlying attributions of meaning.
